Slot Demos, Rebuilt From Scratch: What Changed and Why

Catalog-first layout, a biggest-hits rail, one toolbar, cards that carry specs, and Back finally returns you to where you were. 4,768 slots from 39 studios.

Slot Demos launched in July and it was, to be blunt about our own work, a catalog page with a filter bar. Useful, not good. It's been rebuilt from scratch and shipped this morning. Here's what changed and the reasoning behind each piece.

The catalog is the page now

The old layout had a hero, a stats row, three rows of filter pills, then games. By the time you reached a slot you'd scrolled a screen and a half. Now: a compact stage at the top with a poster wall of trending games behind it, one toolbar, then the grid. The first row of slots is above the fold on a laptop and on most phones.

Biggest hits caught

The new rail under the stage shows the ten slots with the biggest multipliers our casino tracker has recorded, with the multiplier, the win in dollars and how many people are playing it right now. It's the thing people ask about most ("what's actually been paying") and it was buried on the individual game pages before. Now it's the first thing you see.

One toolbar

Search, sort and studio filter in a single row. Sort options are Most played, Biggest hits, Most wagered, Max win, RTP, Name and New. The studio filter shows the eight biggest studios as chips with a popover for the other thirty-one. On mobile the row wraps and the sort becomes a dropdown. Filters live in the URL, so a filtered view is a shareable link.

Cards that tell you something

Each card is a poster with the slot's name, studio, RTP and max win on a scrim at the bottom, plus a pill showing current players if anyone's on it. Hover (or long-press) and you get the play button and the specs. The old cards showed the name and a thumbnail; you had to click through to learn anything.

It remembers where you were

The most-reported annoyance with the old page, by a mile: you'd scroll deep into the catalog, open a demo, press Back, and land at the top of the list. Every time. The page now keeps the list and your exact scroll position for fifteen minutes, so Back puts you on the card you clicked. This came straight from a community message and it should have worked that way from day one.

It loads faster and has its own loader

The catalog loads in pages of sixty with an infinite-scroll sentinel, images are lazy and sized to their slot, and the section has its own loading screen rather than borrowing the Engine Tracker's. Small things, but the page was visibly sharing another section's skeleton before and it looked unfinished.

Numbers

4,768 slots from 39 studios as of this morning. Specs (RTP, max win, volatility) are filled for the large majority; the long tail is still being backfilled. A handful of games have no demo at the provider's end and say so instead of showing a broken frame.

What's next for it

A refill button on the demo page for when the play balance runs dry. That's days away. Then per-slot pages that merge the demo, the tracker data and the Slot Cruncher math into one place, which is the thing we've wanted since July.

Go look. /slot-demos. It's a different page.
