The 'Moon' Restyle: A New Typeface, Less Shouting, and What We Stole From Sites We Admire

Inter to Geist, display weights capped at 700, gradient text gone, an 11px floor, one radius scale. Same site, calmer. What we looked at and what we took.

The site looks a little different today. Same layout, same pages, but the type is new, a lot of weight is gone, and things that used to glow don't. We've been calling it the "Moon" pass internally. Here's the thinking.

The typeface

Inter is out, Geist is in. Inter served us well and it's a fine face; it's also the default face of roughly every dashboard built since 2020, and the site had started to look like a template of itself. Geist is a touch narrower, its numerals are better at small sizes (which matters on a site that is 70% numbers), and it holds its shape at the weights we actually use.

Fewer weights

The old stylesheet used 800 and 900 weights all over the place: hero titles, stat values, badge labels. At those weights everything shouts and nothing stands out. We capped display type at 700, dropped most headings to 600, and let size and spacing do the hierarchy work instead of boldness. Headings got tighter letter-spacing and a slightly tighter line-height so they read as one object rather than a stack of words.

Fewer gradients

Gradient-clipped text (the kind where a heading fades from indigo to green) is everywhere on crypto sites and it ages badly. It was on about a dozen titles here. They're solid now. The Slot Demos title in particular was flagged by a few people as hard to read; it's a single emerald now.

A floor on tiny text

We had labels down at 9 and 10 pixels. On a phone that's unreadable and on a desktop it's a squint. Nothing on the site is under 11px now, and most of what was 11 is 12.

Consistent corners and borders

Rounded corners came in eleven different radii. They're on a four-step scale now. Borders were everywhere between 6% and 14% white; they're one value. Shadows are deeper and fewer. None of this is visible as a single change and all of it is visible as "it feels tidier".

What we looked at

We spent an evening with three sites that do this well: a developer-tools company's marketing site, a private-aviation site, and a Stake Engine studio's own game pages. None of them look like each other and all three share the same habits: one typeface used with discipline, generous spacing, no decorative gradients, numbers set in tabular figures so columns line up. We stole the habits, not the look.

What didn't change

The dark canvas, the indigo accent, the layout of every page. If you squint it's the same site. If you look it's calmer.

If something's now too quiet (a stat you can no longer find at a glance, a label that's lost its emphasis), tell us. Calm is the goal; invisible isn't.
